LinkedIn Open Networking (LION) should go away. Here’s why. This Week in Social Media

Happy Friday everyone!

A colleague of mine wrote an article about the need to retire the L.I.O.N. designation. This stands for LinkedIn Open Networker, and basically says that they will connect with anyone on LinkedIn. This is a poor way to do business on LinkedIn so I totally agree with his assessment.

Instagram has temporarily shut down access to third party apps, effectively killing off an entire class of Instagram-reader apps and instituting serious restrictions on any apps that remain. This was due to a password breach but will have a significant impact on Instagram power users.

In the wake of the horrific terrorist attack in Paris, the hacker group Anonymous announced that they have identified 5,500 suspected daesh (aka ISIS) terrorists and sympathizers. We live in a strange world when hackers go after terrorists.

Unfortunately someone thought it would be a good idea to photoshop the picture of a Sikh from India to make him look like a suicide bomber. Even more unfortunately this poor Canadian citizen’s picture was plastered across news outlets around the world as a suicide bomber. It’s the bad side of social media information overload.

Finally, cats are jerks. That is all.

Have a great weekend!
